“Daylighting” describes the practice of using natural light to illuminate areas. Research conducted by the Lighting Research Center has indicated that human performance can be connected to access to natural light in the work environment. They found that natural light impacted melatonin levels in the human body. The amount of melatonin produced by the body seemed to decrease with daylight which positively impacts their work performance when compared to their work done without natural light. Lighting has been connected to patient health improving more quickly post-surgery and has also shown to lead to improved test scores for students.
